I just had three ribs broken by a not quite drunk driver, who didn't quite see me. I bought two, a shirt and a plastron. The raised design, which I had hoped would be some tough new plastic, was just a mixture or rubber and fabric. And not very thick, either. It did help some when other bikers gave me the manly hug greeting. So, it works for me, a little. It's just too little for too much.
The raised design is just some sort of rubber mixture. I was hoping for better shock absorbtion, say soft plastic that stiffened on impact. It might work for someone else, and it is well made. It's just not for me.
